H.H. Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al Sabah, Prime Minister of Kuwait opened the 1st Kuwait Global Forum in Brussels on 18 December 2007 describing Kuwait's ‘vision to complete the construction of our modern state'.

In a wide-ranging address, H.H. The Prime Minister described the four attributes of Kuwait as its people, location, political stability and influence, and its natural and financial wealth. ‘These attributes qualify Kuwait to become a financial and trade hub, and a gateway to international trade in South West Asia' he said.

Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Chairwoman of the Kuwait Voluntary Work Centre had her work recognised when she received the 1 st Kuwait Global Forum Award for Outstanding Leadership that is given to an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the development of the Kuwaiti Society.

Charlie McCreevy, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, in his keynote address set out the current challenges faced by the banking sector expressing the view ‘I am still of the firm view that light touch, principles-based regulation is the best approach for the financial sector'.
